Course Description:

I will try to demonstrate consistently throughout the course, the complexity of the history of Zionism and Israel. The classes will reflect the diverse ideas and experiences of the Zionist movement and Israelis. Participants will have the opportunity to examine Zionism from a Palestinian perspective and from a Jewish perspective.

Topics will include: A short history of Zionism; was Zionism a settler colonial project?; is Zionism in crisis?; is Zionism racist?; did Zionism involve ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians?; Zionism and the Nation State Law; are Zionism and democracy compatible?; is Zionism dead?; does anti-Zionism equal anti-Semitism?; how does Black Lives Matter relate to Zionism?; alternatives to Zionism; and Zionism and evangelical Christians.

Please note that this course will not repeat topics covered in my course on the relationship between Palestinians and Israelis. The material is new and different.  The format of the class will be a combination of film clips about the topics by authorities and class discussion of the content of the clips.  No advance preparation is required.
