Course Leader Bio
Richard and Mary have offered many courses at LLAIC – mostly in the areas of psychology and sociology. Recent courses include American Education, Justice and Morality, and Political Polarization. In his first career Richard was an Associate Professor of Human Development at Temple University. In his second career he was Director of Research in two consulting firms before starting his own consulting practice. He specialized in the identification and assessment of skills, abilities, and traits leading to superior performance in a wide variety of roles, especially ones involving leadership, management, selling, and team leadership. He was part of a team of consultants who met and consulted with Daniel Goleman as he was synthesizing his research on emotional intelligence.
Mary started her career as an elementary school teacher, then got a master’s in psychology of reading, and worked as a reading psychologist and then as a trainer and consultant to teachers. She has also worked as an editor in a school publishing company, as a career counselor, and as an educational consultant, helping students to find appropriate placements for school and college.
